A Critical Evaluation Of The Role Of Women In Sustaining Yaku Music Of Wukari Jukun Of The Benue Basin Of Nigeria
Pionier European historian/s had the notion that the Jukun are not as musical as their neighbours. Jukun culture on the contrary is saturated with the musical arts; Women play significant role in these. In Yaku performance, a ritual dance in the deference of their ancestors who are believed to be the chief security of the land; The role of women as the preserver of the future and the caretaker of the present is indispensable. Employing the descriptive and analytical method, this papper attempts to critically examine the role of women in sustainig the musical tradition of Yaku dance over the decades.
