Contemporary forms of slavery exist today despite the fact that slavery has been banned in most of the countries where it was practiced. Some of these new forms of slavery distinguish from other human rights violation and one of the key explanations for this development is globalization. These new forms of enslavement possessed features such as vulnerability, gullibility, and deprivation. Examples of these new forms of enslavement include, but not limited to, trafficking in persons, bonded labour or debt bondage (as applicable to some cases of child marriages), and forced marriage. This study intends to explore some of the new forms of enslavement with particular reference to trafficking of girls and forced marriages in Lagos, Nigeria. Hence, the study seeks to discuss the role of globalization in the emergence of these new forms of enslavement. Also, the study seeks to examine the consequences of these contemporary forms of enslavement for the Nigerian girls. The methodology adopted for this study is both narrative and analytical. All primary and secondary data acquired will be subjected to content analysis.
