Female Criminality: An evaluation of crimes in Lagos Slums

This Paper evaluates the incidence of female Crime recorded in slum settlements in Lagos. Lagos slums, like many across the world are heavily congested and are often poorly built temporary human settlement, mostly with no security of tenure and prone to antisocial activities, shortage of safe drinking water, inadequate power supply, lack of proper sanitation and scarce medical and social facilities. People living in slum are cut out from the mainstream society. The term female criminality refers to crime committed only by females. Until very recently, many people believe that crime is predominately a male phenomenon and the world of crime is only a man’s world. The subject of female criminality was totally neglected but in recent years the subject has come into focus as the rate of female criminality is increasing at an alarming rate. Female crime is perceived as a key indicator to measure society moral standards. Because compared with male crime, the number and proportion of female crime is low, scholars and the judiciaries were not concerned about female crime in a long time. their indications that the nature and pattern of female crime found in slum settlement is perceived to be at variance with female crime committed in urban mega cities Thus , this study is designed to find out the nature and kind of female crime prevalent in slum settlements in Lagos and recommend on how to tame female crime in slum areas
