Duke University, Durham

This paper will primarily examine Moussa Kamara's autobiography, Tabshir al-Khaif al-Hayraan a Tadhkiruhu bi Sa'at Rahmat Allah al-Karim al-Mannaan ( Herald to the Startled, Anxious, and to Remind him of the Greatness of the Mercy of Allah, the Most Generous, the Most Compassionate). This autobiographical work is one of the most insightful documents into the author's life journey, travels in pursuit of learning and tarbiyah. The paper will use his own words to situate his life and legacy. It also provides the first English translation of many parts of the document. It uses the copy of the manuscript that was edited, annotated and published by Demba Thaw in 2014. The manuscript is available at IFAN-CAD University, cahier 1
