‘Life after Mugabe’: The Resurgence of |Neo-Liberal Enclosure in Zimbabwe’s Agrarian Sector
This paper investigates the dynamics of Zimbabwe’s new agrarian structure within the context of recent political developments triggered by the dramatic removal of Mugabe from power through a military intervention in late 2017. The paper provides a broad overview of the political dynamics currently unfolding in Zimbabwe and their likely impact on the agrarian sector. The paper argues that the return to neo-liberal land markets under the new government is likely to promote land grabbing and the re-insertion of peasants into global commodity circuits under unfavourable terms.
