This panel brings together a group of activist scholars, who have been invited to respond to the ways in which north-south academic collaborations are often framed, and to suggest ways in which these collaborations can be structured in more ethical ways. The insights and recommendations from this group will be disseminated widely and will generate useful debate and discussion, institutionally and also to funding bodies.
Speakers will offer a range of interventions, which could be written up as position papers to be published in the Journal of African Cultural Studies. One of the functions of the roundtable will be to create a useful set of resources, through the compilation of a bibliography of blogs, articles and other writings that provoke and trouble the way knowledge production is shaped by funding and by northern institutional agendas. Contributors are invited to respond to particular documents, or to offer general interventions.
Possible speakers: Ambreena Manji, Grace Musila, Steve Ouma Akoth, Caroline Mose, Njoki Wamai, Dan Omanga, David Kerr, Insa Nolte (tbc), Ola Uduku (tbc), Toby Green (tbc)
