The SNARC effect (spatial-numerical association of response codes) indicates that sequences of numbers are represented in a mental line from left to right. The effect was also found for other domains including months. However, especially concerning the course of a year, other forms of representation are frequently reported and it remains unclear how common and stable these representations are. To examine whether these representations are prone to external influences we conducted a study involving three different priming-conditions that were presented before the actual task: a control group without a certain representation of the year, a task-compatible priming group with the months ordered in a timeline and a task-incompatible priming group with months ordered in a circle. The results suggest that the task-compatible priming can strengthen the SNARC effect, while it cannot be certainly said that a different priming condition can weaken the effect.
