This paper outlines the objectives and challenges in developing a European platform for trusted smart surveys using smart devices. Constituent elements of trusted smart surveys are among other the strong protection of personal data based on privacy-preserving computation solutions. Considerable efforts will be spent in the definition of technical solutions for trusted smart surveys in particular related to the architectures that engage data respondents, preserve their privacy and ensure data protection. The development of a European platform for trusted smart surveys can be seen as an opportunity to address collectively at the ESS level these challenges while preserving data privacy.
