BREAL (Big Data Reference Architecture and Layers) is developed as a possible standard. In order to identify strengths and weaknesses of BREAL, it has been applied to a case with several countries working together with the aim of implementing smart meters (high frequency readings of electricity consumption) in the production of official statistics.
