From VDE FNN Compliance Tests to LPV Dynamic Equivalents: Modeling Grid-Forming Wind Turbines for Large-Scale Frequency Stability Studies

Presented by: Johannes Brunner
This work applies compliance tests to a detailed grid-forming wind turbine model and derives Linear Parameter-Varying (LPV) equivalent models that adequately represent variations across operating points, control saturation, and resource constraints. The derived models are integrated into an aggregated frequency-dynamic framework, enabling scalable studies of large power systems with high grid-forming wind turbine penetration and low inertia. The proposed methodology establishes a systematic link between standardized compliance testing and large-scale dynamic system modeling. It thereby supports the development of realistic system-level studies for future low-inertia power systems.
