Grid-forming converters are expected to play an increasing role in converter-dominated power systems, while their required behaviour is becoming subject to formal verification. The VDE FNN guideline Technical requirements for grid-forming capabilities including provision of inertia defines extensive measurement-based procedures covering multiple operating points, disturbance types and test variants. Their reproducible laboratory implementation therefore requires considerable engineering effort.

This paper presents AutoTest, a modular automation framework that translates FNN verification procedures into reusable, parameterised and configurable test suites. A suite-generation layer on top of openSVP enables test sequences to be assembled, visualised and modified while keeping the test definition independent of the underlying laboratory equipment. Dedicated interfaces integrate the real-time simulator, power amplifier, high-rate measurement system, DC source and device under test. The real-time simulator provides deterministic generation of the required grid disturbances, whereas an independent measurement chain records the high-rate signals required for compliance assessment.

The framework is demonstrated using representative FNN procedures and an experimental grid-forming inverter. The architecture additionally provides a basis for automated post-processing and pass/fail evaluation without making these functions part of the time-critical test-execution layer.
