The deployment of heavy-duty electric vehicles and high-power charging infrastructure introduces new operational requirements for managing their integration into the power grid. This presentation introduces the PowerUp project, which is developing a modular and scalable smart-charging solution for heavy-duty electric vehicles. The system combines interoperable 1.5 MW Megawatt Charging System technology with intelligent energy management, renewable generation and battery storage. Its integration with the power grid enables coordinated control of charging demand, local frequency response, remote dispatch, demand response and participation in system services, while respecting vehicle priorities and site constraints. Real-time monitoring, AI-enabled predictive maintenance and augmented-reality support aim to increase infrastructure availability and reduce downtime. By coordinating charging, photovoltaic production, storage and grid requirements, the solution seeks to reduce operating costs, emissions, demand peaks and pressure on the power network. The project ultimately aims to validate the integrated architecture in a real operating environment, achieve TRL 9.
