Nymphaea Aurora: the first in the world offshore solar project within an offshore wind farm
WISO25-329
Presented by: Johnny Meit
Offshore solar can be installed in offshore wind farms where with <5% of the wind farm area and the same power export infrastructure >40% additional energy can be generated per year. In 2023, the first commercial contract for an offshore solar farm was signed with CrossWind, a joint venture of Shell and Eneco operating the Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind site, 18,5km offshore the Netherlands. Oceans of Energy has for this project successfully completed the engineering, permitting and fabrication phases, and the offshore installation campaign commenced in April 2025, with completion end of Summer 2025. The project, “Nymphaea Aurora”, named after a waterlily, which is by itself nature’s floating solar collector and meaning ‘Dawn of a new Era’, is set to showcase the combination of offshore renewable energy sources for the first time in practice. At the conference, Oceans of Energy showcases first operational results of the demonstration project and how offshore solar can improve offshore wind farm sites worldwide.
