Architecture and Evaluation of a Charging Station for Heavy-duty Vehicles
EMOB25-318
Presented by: Lucas Araujo
This paper presents the concept and premises of a pilot plant for a megawatt (MW) charging station developed in Stord, Norway, under the MegaCharge project. The charging system comprises containerized charging modules designed for heavy-duty transport, integrating battery energy storage systems (BESS) that supply power alongside the grid. A technical description of the converters for both systems is provided, including their control strategies and operational specifications. The pilot plant testing and evaluation methodology is described, including several testing cases as black out and earth faults, thermal limits, showcase of the megawatt charging system (MCS) plug, dynamic test of the energy management system (EMS) with MCS Emulator, and other faults and circuit breaker actions. The depiction of the pilot plant offers a foundation for future research and practical implementation.
