In this paper the effect of different transformer inrush mitigation strategies that were tested in a field measurement campaign are presented. These mitigation strategies include changes in the parameterization, different voltage ramp up times during the blackstart of the island grid - commonly referred to as soft energisation - and altering the tap changer positions of the transformers. Furthermore, additional scenarios of inrush currents are investigated. These include the magnetisation of transformers over a 9 km long cable and sympathetic inrush currents. The results of these scenarios are analysed by looking into the behaviour of the amplitude as well as the harmonics of the voltage, to accurately describe the reasons for the shutdown of the inverters during transformer inrush. To conclude the paper, the effectiveness of the proposed solutions is discussed and recommendations for dealing with inrush currents in island grids are given.
