R&D Department Power Company Sev, Faeroe Islands
Since 2014 the Faroese Power Company Sev has been working a renewable vision – 100by2030. Over the past years there has been a significant amount of research published concerning the renewable transition of the electricity production in the Faroe Islands. These studies typically neglect the smaller islands, which are isolated from the two bigger grids; the main grid and the island of Suðuroy. These small islands only consume <0.2% of the total power consumption in the Faroe Islands. The production on these five small islands is currently only based on stand-alone diesel gensets.

This paper will present these islands, the demand and the local renewable resources. An initial study on how the electricity production on these islands could transition into renewables will then be conducted and a solution will be proposed for each island. The option to connect the islands to the main grid will also be considered.
