In this presentation, I shall discuss the use of stembryos (gastruloids) as experimental paradigms to study aspects of gene regulation and function that can hardly be assessed using embryos. I will illustrate this by using the Hox gene family and show how this new approach has contributed to the understanding of several aspects of their biology.
