RiViVe is a transdisciplinary, experiential, residential laboratory designed within the Spoke 7 of the NFBC - National Biodiversity Future Centre to address the challenge of studying, protecting, narrating, and living and working with biodiversity. It is the result of a collaborative, multidisciplinary working group involving artists, ecologists, anthropologists, social scientists, and environmental humanities in the co-creation of a multidimensional path addressed to participants interested in biodiversity with a variety of backgrounds and roles: research, education, communication, management, etc. The aim was to inspire new visions and trajectories of research and action in the participants, allowing them to operate as “agents of change”.
One of the main activities of RiViVe was the organization of a residential laboratory, which took place in October 2025 in Collelongo (L’Aquila, Italy), near the Collelongo-Selvapiana Long-Term Ecological Research site (LTER). The village hosts a local community where young generations keep old traditions alive in a wild territory.
In the laboratory, the most current issues regarding the diversity of human and other than human living beings were addressed through taxonomy and biodiversity monitoring, evaluating practices, group activities, anthropological soundscape listening, artistic interpretation, and the dialogue with the local community.
In the presentation, we will report some results of the RiViVe experience based on the feedback from participants collected during the residence and in the following weeks. They all agree on the necessity to keep the project alive and evolving in order to break the borders among disciplines, to find space and time for diverse kinds of knowledge to dialogue without hierarchies, and to incorporate their experience in Collelongo in their everyday practice.
