Generative AI tools are entering higher education rapidly, yet most institutional deployments remain generic chatbot services disconnected from course structure, learning management systems, or institutional access control. This Innovation Demo Lab presents CurreChat — a generative AI environment developed at the University of Helsinki specifically for teaching and learning — as a replicable institutional model for course-embedded, GDPR-compliant human-AI collaboration.
CurreChat connects directly to existing university infrastructure via a governed pipeline: course enrolment in Sisu (the Finnish university student information system) activates course-specific AI environments in CurreChat, which are embedded directly in Moodle course areas. This model ensures institutional access control, teacher agency in AI design, and full GDPR compliance — with no conversation storage and no use of student data for model training.
The demo presents three use cases representing a deliberate progression of pedagogical complexity. First, an AI Patient simulation for healthcare students practising written clinical communication — our earliest deployed scenario, grounded in published research (Vilanti et al., 2025, BMC Medical Education). Second, a two-phase psychotherapy session simulation currently in live pilot with medical students: students simulate a therapy session, then trigger an AI role-shift into evaluator mode, receiving structured numeric and qualitative feedback generated via retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) against a Finnish psychotherapy assessment rubric — a deliberate practice design grounded in Ericsson et al. (1993). Third, NordicCloud Solutions Oy, a fictional Finnish B2B SaaS company with 129 AI-backed characters across six organisational divisions, where organisational psychology students act as external consultants navigating realistic information boundaries and gatekeeping structures.
CurreChat will be available for hands-on exploration, with demo instances ready for participants toCurreChat will be available for hands-on experience and demo instances; furthermore, the team will be on-site to engage with.
Conference participants will leave with a clear picture of how the Sisu–CurreChat–Moodle model works.
