This study explores how Artificial Intelligence is transforming the role of teachers in contemporary educational contexts. Using an exploratory literature review of 31 open-access articles of 2026 and the methodology of the Meta-model for Analysis and Exploration of Scientific Knowledge®, the research permits to map trends, challenges and implications of AI integration in teaching practices. Findings indicate that AI doesn't replace teachers but reshapes their pedagogical, evaluative, relational and organizational functions. Teachers increasingly act as mediators of AI-supported learning, critical supervisors of automated assessments, facilitators of student autonomy, reflective professionals and agents of institutional innovation. The study emphasizes also the importance of AI literacy, highlighting that the future of education depends on teachers’ ability to integrate technology strategically while maintaining human-centered learning. Overall, the transformation reflects a shift toward a multidimensional teaching role, where teachers remain central to knowledge mediation, technological integration and student development.
