The ability to fabricate microstructures on large surface areas would enhance product performances in optics and solar systems, where maintaining high productivity is critical. In this study, diamond tools with structured cutting edges have been used to machine silicon. Experiments on an ultra-precision machining setup were performed to identifiy ductile machining conditons. It is shown that edge preparation on diamond tools improve the performance allow higher material removal rate.
