PERFORMANCES OF VARIOUS TOOL COATINGS ON MILLING OF STEEL 2379

In this article, the effects of different tool coatings on tool life were investigated. Solid end mills with the same microstructure but with different coatings were used on milling of Steel 2379. Performances of various coating types (AlCrN, TiAlN, TiSiN, TiSiN, AlTiSiN) and uncoated carbide tools were compared interms of cutting forces and tool life in milling tests. During the experiment analysis, all the cutting process parameters were kept constant except the tool coating types.
