A hybrid cutting force model for micro-milling process

A hybrid cutting force model which integrates a finite element based tool deflection model into mechanistic modeling of micro-milling has been developed. Micro-milling experiments on commercially pure titanium have been conducted and experimental observations have been used to calculate the internal parameters of the model considering tool run-out, tool deflection and chip thickness accumulation. The proposed model is shown to capture the process physics and promising results were obtained.
