The purpose of a risk inventory survey is to make managers and employees aware of risks related to their daily work and to increase the knowledge level regarding vulnerabilities within an organization. Its goal is also to reduce the work risks and increase organizational security. During the last three years, the Safety and Environment Department of the County Council of Dalarna have worked on developing a risk inventory method. The method is based on two parts, a questionnaire and a graphical presentation – a risk profile. Identified risk areas and single risks as well as a business vulnerability analysis can also be the basis for the development of the ability for a person (or group) to manage serious events and crises, and to operate under severe stress. It will also increase the level of knowledge about the risks and vulnerabilities in general in your organization. Additionally, you can use the unique possibility within the questionnaire structure. A very interesting feature is the ability to compare the subsequent use of the survey where the organization can compare itself to the reference set but also to their own previous survey results. This is also a way to measure the improvement factor. The risk profile is thus a compilation from the risk inventory, it is based on the subjective responses that the County Council Dalarnas department managers/first-line managers delivered at a predetermined time.
