The objective of the REACT project was to identify how communication strategies can be built with an impact on the process of effective risk awareness and prevention in the field of national security. To achieve this objective, we have proposed, inter alia, to identify which is the social perception about the risks to national security, to evaluate to what extent this perceptions differs from the way in which risks are defined in the official documents governing national security and, subsequently, to outline some elements to substantiate effective communication strategies.
In this paper we outline the main research steps taken during the implementation period of the project and we disseminate the results obtained after applying the Q sort method on a sample of 80 subjects, from four different target groups. In the end, based on the conclusions of the REACT research project, we are making an assessment about potential lessons learned throughout this process.
