The present paper proposes a solution to the population overestimation problem of register and register based census statistics, based on its formulation as a statistical classification problem. A practical implementation of this solution is provided, using multiple models and methods, systematic tests and evaluation of results, with minimum open source code and employing reliable, standard R-packages.
