Production and consumption patterns since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic have transformed – things are simply not what they were. Will any of these changes become lasting changes? How quickly will things return to normal? Will there be a “new normal” and if so, what will it look like? Data available from various Google platforms (Google Trends, Google Mobility, Google APIs) can be used to answer these questions. This research explains how these data sources and various methods can be used to develop business status and business activity indicators and how these indicators can be linked to official statistics.
