Smart features such as in-device processing and storage, use of mobile device sensors, use of external sensor systems and data donation can be promising for surveys. This holds true, especially, when survey topics are burdensome, require speciliast knowledge and/or are weak proxies of the concepts of interest. Household budget surveys satisfy such criteria and currently research and development is on-going to include smart features. In the paper we describe results and experiences for a smart houshold buddget survey within projects funded by Eurostat.
