Measuring the effects of a peer-to-peer mentoring program on university choices and performance
Enrollment decisions play a major role in shaping future labor market and life outcomes. We run an RCT aimed at providing a mentor to high school students in the process of enrolling in a STEM course in an Italian University. Treated high school students (mentees) are matched with bachelor or master students (mentors) enrolled in a programme degree of interest to the mentee. Mentors meet their mentees online, share their experience and help them navigate the enrollment process. We report results on the impact of the intervention on enrollment decisions, as well as on subjective beliefs about performance, social life, enjoyment of the subjects, and future earnings.
